But What About 4-6 Small Meals A Day?
For quite some time, this has been the mantra in health and fitness. Eat 4-6 small meals a day, every 2-3 hours to “keep that metabolism going.” I believed it. It seemed like it made sense. Until I looked at it from two perspectives: logically and metabolically. Would we survived as a species had we needed to eat 4-6 times a day every 2-3 hours. Not likely. From a metabolic level, you do need to eat often if you are constantly living off sugar and carbohydrate as energy. If you are burning fat, you don’t need to. Think of your metabolism as a fire. Do you want to keep putting kindling on the fire every few hours and never get to have a life because you were a slave to “keeping the fire going”? Or would you like to put a few big logs on the fire and let them burn for several hours before you have to worry about it again? I choose the big logs. It can literally ‘free” you from being a slave to food and eating. And there doesn’t seem to be any good evidence that grazing is better for your health or weight.
