The Bare 5 Tips series will be my way of passing along a couple pointers, suggestions and ideas each week of things you can use to help reclaim the natural innate health we are all designed to possess.
These two tips are ones that always seem to help me slide into a nice evening.
Bare 5 Tips:
Brush your teeth after dinner.
Shortly after you finish dinner, brush and floss. This serves two purposes. First, it almost always discourages late night snacking which is huge for many people. Second, it saves you something to do before bed which is always nice. Personally, just the act of brushing and flossing my teeth wakes me up a bit so this habit makes my transition into bedtime very smooth. You could also add any other pre bed chores to this time to leave you with little to do at bedtime.
Turn off overhead lights after 8pm.
Lamps and under cabinet/counter lights are fine, candles even better. This practice helps the body prepare for sleep much more effectively when there’s nothing mimicking the overhead light of the sun. The brighter the environment, the more difficult it is for your body to transition into a restful state. If you feel tired earlier than usual this is a good sign, it means your body is ready to rest. Take the clue from nature and get some (probably much needed) sleep!
