Thought-tober: Sometimes You Gotta Go Back

This commercial hits home…

This is a car commercial but if you reframe what he’s talking about it makes me wonder, could he be talking about health?

Sometimes you gotta go back to actually move forward. I don’t mean going back to reminisce or chase ghosts, I mean going back to see where you came from. Where you’ve been, how you’ve got here, see where you’re going. I know there are those who say you can’t go back. Yes you can. You just have to look in the right place.

In today’s world we are so focused on moving forward and advancement that I wonder if we get ahead of ourselves, particularly when it comes to our health. We are advancing so fast in technology and lifestyle that I think we are moving backward in many of the areas that really matter, health being a big one.

What if we looked at health from this same “Sometimes You Gotta Go Back” perspective? This monologue would be right on. Sometimes looking back on human health, behaviors and wisdom can help us move forward with our own journey. Not to romanticize or copy but to take clues from. To see the things we’ve done and gone through, the mistakes we’ve made, the things we’ve learned and the path we are on. There are plenty of people who think we can’t use human history to help advance health. We can. We just need to look in the right place.

There are clues, lessons and wisdom throughout the years, from the beginning of human history to the development of civilization and from our great grandparents to just the last few years. If we take the time to look and keep an open mind, I think the things we strive to accomplish in the future will come from taking a journey back to learn from things of our past.

Thanks for reading, have a great day!

P.S. This post should actually be called ‘The Wisdom of the Lincoln Advertising Group’ but that didn’t seem as catchy. 🙂
