Green Time vs. Screen Time

Biophilia – There is an instinctive bond between human beings and other living systems.

Videophilia – The new human tendency to focus on sedentary activities involving electronic media.

Green vs. Screen
There’s a strong belief that humans are, by nature, biophillic. We have an instinctive connection with other natural things and thrive on green time. We belong outside, interacting with the living world all around us. There’s now evidence all around us that electronics are starting to take over our lives and we are beginning have our green time being replaced by screen time.

Green time will forever be part of our history and biology. It is synonymous with humans and animals. Screen time is without a doubt part of modern life. The trick is to make sure the balance doesn’t tip too far toward the screen side of things.

Having screen time is fine. Love your iPad, smart phone, laptop and HDTV. Just make sure you don’t get consumed by these things so much that you forget about your connection to other living things.

The simple equation: if screen time > green time then it’s time to reassess your priorities. If green still rules your life, go ahead and surf the Internet some more…
